Constance Fowler (1907-1996) was a painter, printmaker, author, and educator who taught at Willamette University from 1935 to 1947.  Best known for the expressive realism of her paintings and wood engravings produced in the 1930s and 1940s in Oregon, she would eventually work in personal variations of abstract movements that dominated American art after 1950.  Study Gallery and Print Study Center.  Gallery Hours are: Tue – Sat 10am-5pm Sun 1pm-5pm

Thanks to a Cultural Development Grant through the Oregon Cultural Trust, visitors have several opportunities during May to observe and talk with art conservator Tom Fuller as he works with objects from the Native American collection at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University.

“Holly Andres: The Homecoming,” transports viewers into the photographic narratives of nationally recognized Portland artist Holly Andres. The exhibition features several of the artist’s photographic series that ponder the complexity of childhood, innocence, and femininity.

Professor Emeritus and Senior Faculty Curator Roger Hull will discuss Constance Fowler’s 1930s Oregon scene paintings and prints as the basis of her evolving approach to artmaking as she responded to American modern art in the second half of the twentieth century. Lecture will be held in the Roger Hull Lecture Hall.
