Writer/Director William Lewis uses his independent films to awaken the activist in American citizens, and "Washington, You're Fired!" is no exception. His message to Americans? Instead of effectively protecting our basic civil rights (think Patriot Act), government representatives have failed us by cowering to the desires of the present administration and big business.
This film encourages viewers to become proactive towards government and let them know we will not tolerate the "gradual erosion of rights" similar to the tactics implemented by Adolph Hitler.
Lewis fears if we the people do not gain control of this situation, we will soon be living under a dictatorship. The beginning of the film examines violations by the Bush administration and Lewis airs specific situations that exhibit the blatant disregard to individual's rights to make is points. Lewis also promotes separation from "blind loyalty to party" and shifts the focus to working together for what is true and just.
This documentary is meant to serve as a wake-up call to Americans because we have been "strikingly silent in the national yawn as our rights evaporate." Lewis' film offers a series of solutions to which the viewer can relate, such as joining a grassroots movement and demanding that our representatives defend our basic civil rights, or ... "You're fired!"
