"The Ruins"A group of friends visit a remote archaeological dig in the Mexican jungle and awaken something that would have rather stayed dead. The movie is based on the bestselling book by Scott Smith. Despite the generic horror movie storyline, the film actually received positive reviews. Jonathan Tucker, Laura Ramsay, and Jena Malone co-star.
"Sleepwalking"
Jolene (Charlize Theron) is a single mother, who decides to abandon her daughter with her slacker brother, James. James takes his niece and flees to his abusive father's farm. The movie chronicles the story of this family trying to put their lives back together with the bad memories of the past. Bill Maher, yes that Bill Maher, directs the film. It had a small theatrical run in March. Charlize Theron, AnnaSophia Robb, Woody Harrelson, Nick Stahl, and Dennis Hopper co-star.
"Stop-Loss"
A soldier, played by Ryan Phillippe, is getting his life back together after a tour of duty in Iraq, when he is issued a "Stop-Loss" order. The army forces him back to Iraq against his will. The film had a meager outing in theatres bringing in approximately $11 million. Abbie Cornish, Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt co-star with Phillippe.
"Superhero Movie"
It seems like every other week there is a new parody movie coming out. It's sad to see Leslie Nielsen, Jeffrey Tambor, and even Tracy Morgan stooping to this level. Luckily these films seem to be making less and less money per run, so sooner or later they're going to peter out to DVD-only releases.
