`The Mummy' a thrilling adventure and funny, too

I have been called a nerd for watching the original Indiana Jones movies on VHS until they are nothing more than a heap of broken, useless plastic. I'm a guy who likes a well- made action movie, where the main character doesn't have enough muscle to bench press a busload of nuns.

Brenden Fraser thrills us with his newest ilm "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor." We catch up with our heroes who are living it up in retirement. It only takes a 2000-year-old curse and the prospect of imminent death to bring them back into action.

Fraser gives a dynamite performance as explorer Rick O'Connell. Step aside Dr. Jones! This intrepid explorer combines action and comedy effortlessly. Fraser's cheesy, silly antics of "George of the Jungle" are a thing of the past.

This film is filled with fantastic action scenes, unpleasant plane travel, explosions, gunfire, and mythical creatures only a mother could love. Jet Li adds a great performance as the Dragon Emperor, bringing his talents of martial arts to his fearsome character. This film was exciting and fun with lots of one-liners and even a hint of a moral. It's everything that the latest Indiana Jones movie was not -- and then some.

And an added perk: This movie may even bring some solace to those with Yeti phobias. I know there must be some out there.

"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" is opening today nationwide. In the Salem metro area, it will be playing at Regal Movieland 7, Regal Lancaster Mall Stadium 11, and Independence Cinema.
