'The Eye,' 'Over Her Dead Body,' 'How She Move' and 'Strange Wilderness' out today By Shawn Estes from WillametteLive, Section Screen Posted on Fri Feb 01, 2008 at 11:57:10 AM PDT "Over Her Dead Body"
When his fiance Kate (Eva Longoria) passes away, Henry (Paul Rudd) agrees to consult a psychic named Ashley (Lake Bell). In a cruel and strange twist of fate, he falls madly in love with the psychic, who just happens to have a supernatural connection to Kate. Kate's last act as a ghost is to stop this new romance from happening. It's funny when your dead girlfriend wants you to be lonely for the rest of your life ... isn't it? If anyone is getting flashbacks from Roseanne's "She-Devil," you'd be right. Except we've traded up for a hot, dead girlfriend instead of, well, Roseanne. "Over Her Dead Body" is rated PG-13 and is playing at Regal Santiam 11.
"The Eye"
Oh, Jessica Alba. How you taunt us with your flesh, and well, nothing else. "The Eye" is about a woman who has an eye transplant and begins seeing visions of an alternative dimension. It's almost guaranteed that Alba will change her clothes or go swimming in a skimpy bikini, which may be the only reason to watch this film. The comic book convention crowd has drooled over Alba since her gig with "Dark Angel." (To be fair, she's probably the only one at those comic book conventions who has breasts.) Perhaps she's trying to rack up (get it?) another sci/fi movie to justify going to more of those conventions. That should make her feel better after the string of failures that she's endured in the past year. "The Eye" is rated PG-13 and is playing at both Regal Movieland 7 and Stadium 11.
"How She Move"
Or as I like to call it, "Me like dance." But the title probably should have been "Save the Last Dance IV." Once again, a young woman is coming of age and trying to dance her way out of the ghetto, this time to the tune of $25,000 in prize money. Who doesn't move for that kind of dough? I'm guessing the movie is good, otherwise Molly Shannon would be starring, and then I'd be calling it "How I move out of theater fast?" Rutina Wesley stars -- and, man, how SHE move. "How She Move" is rated PG-13 and is playing at Regal Santiam 11.
"Strange Wilderness"
In "Strange Wilderness," Steve Zahn plays Peter Gaulke, the new TV host of a wildlife show called "Strange Wilderness." When its ratings slip, Pete and his team set out to find Bigfoot, but once among the wilds of Central America, things go horribly wrong. If it weren't for the man-love (that's right, I went there) I feel for Steve Zahn, I'd probably be looking to "The Eye" for my comic relief this weekend. But with a combination like Jonah Hill and Steve Zahn, this movie is sure to have some laughs, especially if you can handle Zahn's bumbling delivery. He single-handedly saved "Daddy Day Care" with it, so the man deserves some credit, not to mention a healthy dose of man-love. "Strange Wilderness" is rated R and playing at Regal Stadium 11.
