"The Dark Knight"It's time to put on the cowl and utility belt. The people braving the lines this weekend for the new Batman film are bound to the be the same people who dress up, so beware of sweaty geeks complaining about inconsistencies with Batman's comic book depiction. On the other hand, critics are jumping over themselves to praise the flick and Heath Ledgers' performance as The Joker. "The Dark Knight" is rated PG-13 and is playing at Regal Movieland 7, Regal Lancaster Mall Stadium 11, and Independence Cinema. It's also playing on IMAX at Bridgeport 18 in Tigard.
"Mamma Mia"
Or watch older women dance around to ABBA song for a couple of hours. Everyone who is not at the Batman movie will be here humming "Dancing Queen" and talking about how cheery this musical is. The film doesn't compare to other great musical adaptations like "Chicago" and "Moulin Rouge," but it will be good counter programming to Batman. For a full review, check out "Mamma Mia! will have you begging for mercy. "Mamma Mia" is rated PG-13 and is playing at Regal Movieland 7, Regal Santiam 11, and Independence Cinema.
"Space Chimps"
Here's the movie for people who need to dump their kids at a movie so they can watch "Batman" or "Mamma Mia." Sadly, this isn't comparable to the other great animated films that we've grown accustomed to. But at least the voice cast looks pretty good with Andy Samberg, Cheryl Hines, Jeff Daniels, and Patrick Warburton. The movie is pretty self-explanatory: animated chimps go to space. "Space Chimps" is rated G and is playing at Regal Santiam 11 and Independence Cinema.
