"Super Smash Bros" has been in the making for years. It was showcased for the first time at the E3 gaming convention and has since been on the radar of gamers hip to Super Smash Bros Melee and Nintendo in general. Super Smash Bros Brawl's release date has been pushed back so many times, that it's hard to pinpoint exactly when it was first supposed to be released. Pre-Christmas 2007 was one solid release window, but then Nintendo pushed it back to early 2008. Regardless of the delays, fans have been aching to start virtually beating each other up for years. With the game finally released, Nintendo nerds everywhere descended on gaming stores to pick up the game and vegetate in front of the TV.
There's just one problem. The size of this already sold-out game forced Nintendo to use double-layered discs. And if there is contamination on the lens of the disc drive you won't be able to play the game. The problem is not with the disc, but with the Wii system. So waiting to buy the game (or anything other double-layered disc game) isn't going to help.
Nintendo says that only a small percentage of Wii consoles will have this problem with double-layered discs. So in other words, if your lens is dirty the game will not be able to be read. Now, don't go all old school gamer and try to blow on it to clean it. That or any other homemade solution is bound to damage the Wii completely. They are offering free repairs, including expedited shipping to give your Wii a bath.
Nintendo is offering a repair process online. If your Wii is experiencing this problem, visit Nintendo Consumer Repair and get your Wii fixed. Happy brawling!
