"How I Met Your Mother": Doogie vs BritneySomebody isn't happy with "stunt casting" on "How I Met Your Mother" and that somebody is Doogie Howser himself, Neil Patrick Harris. He told the Associated Press last week, "I worry that if they start "Will & Grace-ing" us too much, that the show will suffer. And we're all really proud of the content of the show. I mean, viewership is not our game. It's the network and the studio's game, you know. It's the promotion department's game." Yeah, Doogie, you wouldn't want your show to be anything like "Will & Grace," you'd have to buy another house with all that fat syndication cash with an extra room just for your stack of Emmies. How dare they bring interest to the show! Of course, as should be clear from his statement, he's not knocking Britney herself, but the plethora of cameo appearances that are sure to follow her successful appearance.
Celebrities get to keep their talents a secret (still)
What's better than George Takei singing a country music song? Well according to television viewers across the country, anything but Takei singing country music. CBS has pulled "Secret Talents of the Stars" from their schedule after a single horrendous performance with ratings last week. I have a feeling that there will not be a fan pledge drive to save this stinker. Why? There aren't any fans.
Friday night lights up for DirecTV subscribers.
"Friday Night Lights" was recently announced to be returning to TV. Not over the airwaves, but rather over satellite connections for DirecTV subscribers. In a fresh way of looking at syndication, DirecTV and NBC have inked a deal to air new episodes of "Friday Night Lights" in the fall on DirecTV's channel 101. The same episodes will premiere on broadcast TV after the Super Bowl next year.
"We are excited to be a part of something that feels legitimately groundbreaking, and new," said executive producer Peter Berg. "All of us in the 'Friday Night Lights' family are thrilled that 'FNL' will be back for a third season and look forward to working with our new partners at DIRECTV as well as the outstanding team at NBC led by Marc Graboff and Ben Silverman. Clear Eyes. Full Hearts."
Oh, Pete, I see what you did there. You used the oft-repeated mantra of the Dillon Panthers in reference to the people who saved the show. How adorable.
What's more exciting is that this new business partnership opens up a whole new model for every network and distribution center. Not to get your hopes up, but "Jericho" and CBS are rumored to be in talks with Comcast Communications to bring "Jericho" back using a model similar to this deal. Clear Eyes. Full Hearts, Jericho fans.
