Dancing with the non-starsAnother season, another lackluster cast list. Kim Kardashian (a lesser known Paris Hilton), Lance Bass (N'Sync), chef Rocco DiSpirito, Olympian Misty May-Treanor, Olympic runner Maurice Greene, Toni Braxton, Cloris Leachman, Ted McGinley, Brooke Burke, comedian Jeffrey Ross, football player Warren Sapp and Susan Lucci. Name the "stars," folks. This show is just a sick and twisted way of agents getting their D-list on television. Show begins September 22.
OMG another Idol judge
Another talent show announced changes today. The high-rated search for America's next forgotten musician begins airing in January. But shooting for the auditions is ramping up and a fourth judge has been announced. Songwriter Kara DioGuardi will join the panel in the coming season.
Initial responses from Paula Abdul have been lukewarm at best. She told a Phoenix morning show that she was excited. She followed that up with, "I am concerned about the audience and acceptance. Time will tell. We'll see."
Abdul might feel a little threatened since rumors last season were that she was on the way out. Fox hasn't made any signals of replacing her. The goal is to match Idol with its international counterparts that have four judges.
Stargate: Atlantis wraps up in its fifth season
The current iteration of Stargate will end in January 2009, but it's still not the end of the Stargate universe on TV.
First the "Stargate: Atlantis" crew will be in a two-hour TV movie special.
According to Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, co-creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis: "We're excited to tell Atlantis stories on a bigger canvas. The successes of the two original Stargate DTV movies The Ark of Truth and Continuum have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise."
Secondly, a new series is planned titled "Stargate Universe." The series plot has been announced:
"After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.
What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never-ending mission as the Stargate Universe
crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny." Can you say "Star Trek: Voyager"?
I'd like to a buy a vowel, Pat
Senior citizens everywhere will check their heart rate as "Wheel of Fortune" adds a one million dollar bonus wedge to the famed wheel. Kicking off its 26th season, Pat Sajak and Vanna White will tape in Hawaii at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.
Oh no! Liberal media conspiracy!
MSNBC has gained a second show host who isn't afraid to be liberal. The network has found success with "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" and hopes to continue that with "The Rachel Maddow" show, which will follow "Countdown."
Maddow has her own Air America radio show, which is expected to continue. "The Rachel Maddow Show," which is touted as a smart look at politics, pop culture and all the day's top stories, will premiere September 8, on MSNBC. "The Rachel Maddow Show" will air weekdays, 9-10 p.m. ET.
