A step back in time
Salem Repertory Theatre will present "Copenhagen," the semi-fictional mystery of two real-life Nobel laureates who met in 1941 to discuss the atomic bomb, as a staged reading this April. Michael Frayn's Tony Award-winning play tells the story of German physicist Werner Heisenberg and his Danish counterpart and one-time friend Niels Bohr who met secretly in Copenhagen, during World War II, despite being on opposing sides. What they discussed there has never been completely known.
Frayn's vibrant imagining of the meeting explores both the intricacies of physics and even larger complexities of metaphysics, as two great minds seek to understand the chaos of humanity.
There will be three readings of the play, April 4 & 5 at 7:30 p.m. and April 6 at 2 p.m. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $5. The play is directed by Michel Philips and will be held in the Reed Opera House. For information visit salemrep.org or call (503) 302-8907.
