Stage Notes

The old sing and dance routine

Ladies, break out those dancing shoes. On March 3, Salem's Pentacle Theatre hosts auditions for their upcoming production, "The Taffetas." Four females make up this cast of singing sisters from Muncie, Indiana who are the talk of their 1950's town. Actors, ranging in age from 18-35 and over may audition for this musical comedy. Singing actors who vie for a spot on the stage must arrive at the 1pm audition with a song to sing that isn't from this play. Selections are kept to 2-3 minutes, so partial songs are accepted. An accompanist is provided and actors must be prepared to complete a reading from the script.

Director Faye Pitman Trupka has scheduled rehearsals beginning on March 8 for the show which is set to run from May 28-June 19.

For more information or forms, visit www.pentacletheatre.org or contact Trupka at 971.218.9404 and trupkafd@hotmail.com.

The bonds that tie

Sibling rivalries apparently never die. In Paul Osborn's comedy "Morning's at Seven," the four aging Gibbs sisters can't help their meddling ways.

From March 3-20 Albany Civic Theater presents their shenanigans to audiences to are privy to the families close bonds. Leslie Hogan's Ida Bolton welcomes home her son Homer who brings along his fiancee of 12 years.

This story of growing up and letting go is a Broadway revival brought to life in Albany by director Leigh Matthews Brock.

Performances begin at 8 p.m. and tickets cost between $8-11.

An attempt at adaptation

Bringing Shakespeare's words to life may result in any number of unique manifestations. Corban College and Graduate School present "The Little Theatre's Production of Hamlet."

In Jean Battlo's play, New York director Lauren McTeer collaborates with an inexperienced, yet dedicated group of wanna-be actors from rural West Virginia. Begrudgingly, she accepts the directing gig for the income. A comedic look into theatrical life in the rehearsal process, McTeer must figure out how to produce the tragic Hamlet that features 30 roles with the six auditioners who show up to the Little Theatre.

Corban's director Katie Karnes and her cast of characters bring McTeer's frustrations to life in this layered play set to begin with a matinee on March 11 and and run through March 20 with evening shows in the Pslam Performing Center on campus. General admission tickets are $10, student and senior tickets are $8, and children ages 11 and younger get in for $4.
