On a Saturday night after most other coffee shops had closed, I dropped in to Cravings, Etc., located in the remodeled green house formerly occupied by Dragonfly Coffee Company. There was a small group of people there, listening to acoustic folk guitar music. At the counter I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and my dining companion ordered the turkey, bacon, tomato and provolone panini with honey mustard. We sat down in the front porch area, just as the music was about to start. At 8 p.m. there were only a few people there, but we found that most of the crowd arrived closer to 9 p.m. Some people worked on laptops, others enjoyed a late snack or sipped coffee drinks.
As we struggled to balance our wobbly table, my sugar-free mocha arrived. It tasted as good as the real thing. Our food came soon after. The salad had dressing drizzled over it, rather than mixed in, as with other Caesar salads I've ordered. The chicken was nicely grilled and the croutons were toasted to perfection.
My companion enjoyed his panini, which he was kind enough to share with me. My only complaint was that it was made with white bread rather than a heartier Italian or focaccia bread.
All salads are offered in small or large sizes. Cravings menu offers many sandwich options, wraps, paninis, homemade soup, pastries, desserts, and biscuits and gravy for breakfast. All the prices are very reasonable.
After dinner, feeling like we needed some chocolate to finish the meal off, we asked about dessert. We were told about a dessert not listed on the menu called Black Forest Brownie. It was a dense, warm brownie that came topped with cherry pie filling, whip cream and chocolate syrup. This was definitely something to satisfy a craving.
We were pleased with our food and also enjoyed the attractive décor of the house. The place has a cozy, peaceful feel to it, despite the slight chill we were feeling while seated on the porch.
The coffee shop is open Sunday through Wednesday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday and Friday 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Music is offered on Friday and Saturday. Thursday is an open-mic night.
