Salem-News.com will now offer business stories in a section all their own. According to General Manager Bonnie King, business events often miss the news "Newsrooms traditionally round file news releases about business groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings and ownership changes; these stories have often taken the backseat to harder news," she said.
Salem-News hopes to begin publishing these regularly.
"Our development team has created this new section with people in mind who are looking for business news with some meat in it," King said. "This is real news about what affects their business. We are working with people here in the Willamette Valley and with the producers at YourBusinessChannel to bring no-nonsense advice and guidance to our viewers about almost every aspect of business."
Salem-News also hopes to create an online business forum with a group of local experts from varied fields of business. A round table discussion will be videotaped, then posted so that the conversation can be opened up to viewers.
"I'm really excited about the interactive aspect of this group, it is a very new concept and I think it's going to be a big hit. This is the kind of thing that makes a difference."
King hopes to post a new show to the site's Business News section every week.
"Video is key," she said. "It's not a surprise to anyone now, but video is one of the top three draws to the Internet. People want to have good quality video at their fingertips, and we offer that.
"It isn't just a collection of stories, the latest video greets the viewer when the section is opened and links to past shows."
