On May 19 Mission Mill Museum will hold its 23rd Annual Sheep to Shawl Festival, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., with entrance and all activities free of charge. Celebrating fiber arts in nearly every guise, the festival will include weaving, spinning, lace making, tatting and quilting demonstrations by local artists and guilds, as well as hands-on activities for all ages. Kids can learn to card and spin, play some pioneer games or create their own "sheep critter" to take home.

On the museum grounds will be many fiber-bearing animals -- alpacas and angora rabbits, as well as different types of sheep and goats. Sheep shearing demonstrations will take place throughout the day and vendors will have goods for sale. Live entertainment will be on tap, with groups like Riders of the Western Range, a four-member band playing traditional cowboy music, at 10 a.m.

The free admission extends next door to the Marion County Historical Society, where you can test your knowledge of area history and take part in a scavenger hunt of historical sites in Marion County. Rounding out the offerings will be The Salem Garden Club, which will host a plant sale outside the mill building. Info:  Mission Mill.
