Ron Paul raises millions but is lost in polls

Republican presidential candidate, Libertarian Ron Paul may be low in the polls but he raised over $6 million in 24 hours earlier this week - one of the largest single-day fundraising efforts in U.S. election history. He also set a record for the most funds donated online in a single day and a record for the total number of individual donors in a single day with 58,407 contributors.

Today, Ron Paul's fundraising total for the 4th quarter exceeds $18 million.

Much of Paul's money comes from individuals contributing small amounts.

The average donation during the fundraising drive was $102 according to the Paul campaign.
Paul says the polls might be mistaken and he believes he has a wider following than what they indicate.

"In our case, it came from individuals who were concerned about what is happening," Paul said. "I have offered an alternative both economically speaking, monetarily, as well as foreign policy. I believe this is the reason they have come and joined the campaign."

The money was raised on December 16, the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party and his supporters staged a re-enactment of the 1773 protest as part of their fundraising efforts.
This maverick style and the fact that he is the only Republican candidate calling for a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq sets him apart from the rest of the pack. With Rudy Giuliani falling in the polls and Mitt Romney struggling to define his identity, an opening has been created for a new frontrunner. While many evangelical Republicans are looking at Mike Huckabee, many fiscal conservatives and independents are giving Paul another look. He broke double digits with 11 percent in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp poll in South Carolina and he seems to be gaining some steam in New Hampshire.

Paul will face off with Tim Russert on "Meet the Press" December 23. Check your local listings.

Update: Ron Paul will not be at the rally held by his supporters at Ester Short Park in Vancouver on January 5th. For more information, visit Oregonians For Ron Paul.

Why is it...no one ever asks the question...How come the others funds, don't match their polls? Hmmmmmm.

Number of donors (#2)

Ron Paul has more donors this quarter alone than Romney or Giuliani have had in the first nine months of the year combined.

I don't see how Paul can have more donors and raise this kind of money while not seeing it translate into the polls unless something is out of whack.

Maybe there is something to the fact that "likely Republican voters" who are the only folks being polled aren't generally Paul supporters.  Who does that leave to give the cash?

Independents.  There are more of them than there are either Democrats or Republicans.

Disenfranchised Republicans.  These folks sat out in 2006 and 2004 because they didn't like the options.  I suspect Paul has a pretty good number of these folks because he's offering something different.  They aren't included in the polls though.

Democrats?  From what I continue to hear, Paul has the ability to pull folks from across the isle.  These folks sure aren't polled though.

Or maybe Paul's supporters just spammed over $19 million from more than 200,000 donors?

I think the latter is less likely and that the polls just aren't actually capturing his support.

I would say I never get tired of media outlets dragging out the same old "poll results" canard...

But I'd be lying.

Why can't someone talk about why his message is so different, and what it means to everyday Americans? Or how about why the author feels this policy or that will/won't work?  Or maybe deconstructing the whole polling mess (this poll versus that poll: which is historically more accurate?).

There, just gave the world three reasonable things to report on... WTF I have to do your job is just beyond me.

Love,

Your Hero

Its not one of the largest days of political donations, it is the largest.

All of his money is from people, not companies.

The reason he polls low is that he is not offered as an option to those being polled. This has been exposed.

All the Internet polls and straw polls out there he wins

RON PAUL, freedom from oppression. The only real issue of controversy is the abortion issue - other than that, you want more failing war mongering murdering government, or less?

Ron Paul (#5)

Ah, so Ron Paul won't win the nomination? Let's look at the numbers and do the math. All the big scientific polls use a pool of "likely Republican voters". That means they voted in the last election, right? Okay, well and good, except that only 5 to 6% of the Republicans voted in that election. The other 95% were either disgruntled, or too lazy to vote. Now let's do some math. Take the Huckster who is polling at 20% somewhere. 20% of 5% is equal to 1%. Look at Ron Paul. In NH he's polling at 8%. 8% of 5% is equal to 0.4%. Now the difference that you media outlets say is so very big is really only 0.6%, which is just about nothing. Add in the Independents and those who switched partys so they can vote for Dr. Paul and I'd say that changes the equation greatly. Yes sir, now we have an authentic Variable (with a BIG V) in the equation. So, think about it, with Guilianni, the Huckster, McCain and Romney you get 4 more years of Bush. Hence there is no enthusiasm for those candidates, and as such, there is no groundswell of support for any of them. So, only the 5% who voted in the last election are going to vote for them (minus the Paul support, of course). With Ron Paul, there is a VERY active base of support as judged by signs everywhere you look, supporters everywhere you look (1000's of people came to hear him speak in Philly), and money coming into his campaign from everywhere you look (more numbers here, 6 million of them). Obviously, you gentlemen who say he will not win are just not doing the math. If I was a teacher, I would give you all a "D" in math, and I'd fail you in the course of Political Proficy.

Real Polling Results (#6)

For the one hundred millionth time, the mainstream media polls intentionally leave off Ron Paul's name when they call.  They don't want their candidates to be embarrassed by his success.

Here's a good indication of how he's actually polling:

I love it.  Ron Paul is spreading like wildfire and the media covers their eyes and ears.
