May is officially the start of the summer movie season, which means you can expect to see lots of sequels, movies with talking animals, and superheroes.

The much anticipated "Iron Man" kicks off what will be the summer of superheroes, with four big-budget comic-based movies coming out in the next few months.

Here are some highlights for May:

May 2
"Iron Man" - Suppress the urge to do your best Ozzy imitation and instead look at what could be one of the most entertaining flicks of the summer. Robert Downey Jr. plays Tony Stark, a war veteran who is seriously injured and decides to build himself a suit so he can go out and kick major butt. Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard costar in this film, which is directed by Jon Favreau ("Elf").

May 9
"Speed Racer" - The Wachowski Brothers ("The Matrix") are back, and this time instead of asking you to choose the red or the blue pill, they are asking you to jump on board for a live action version of the popular Speed Racer cartoon. The trailer makes it look like anime-come-to-life, with lots of speed and cool visuals and little plot. Emile Hirsch ("Into the Wild") stars as the racer and Christina Ricci plays girlfriend Trixie.

"What Happens in Vegas" - Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher star as two broken-hearted people who go on a bender in Las Vegas, and end up married. When he wins $3 million with her quarter, they are ordered by a judge to stay married and see if they can work out their problems. Hasn't this movie already been made, like, 10 times? And why is Diaz in a movie with the star of "Punk'd"? I think someone forgot to remind her she's a movie star when she signed on to this stinker.

May 16
"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" - Harrison Ford is back as America's favorite adventure-seeking archeologist. He is joined by Shia LaBeouf (who may or not be Indie's son, based on which blog you read), Cate Blanchett (as a Russian baddie) and Karen Allen, who played his original flame in the first movie.

May 30
"Sex and the City: The Movie" - I'll admit it: I'm way more excited about finding out what is happening with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattral), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) than I am about Harrison Ford pretending to punch out Russians. Call me crazy. Will Carrie marry Big? Will Miranda get a divorce? Could Charlotte get any more materialistic? And what will they wear? I don't know, but I've already got my Cosmopolitan in hand, ready to find out.
