Meth mumblings and Kwan's kudos

Children are innocent victims of meth (See RX  TO HELP METH'S WORST CASUALTIES)

I don't mean to argue semantics... but the opening line of this article struck me wrong:
"Richard was two years old when his meth-addicted mother gave up on him."

This would imply that the mother was trying, and that the child was doing something of his own volition.

From the sounds of it, once the labor pains subsided, the mother never engaged in her responsibilities as a parent. She didn't "give up on him." Rather, she finally gave someone else a chance to do the job that she failed at miserably every single day.

Hats off to Kwan's (See 'Best Of' Salem)

We recently had the pleasure of a delicious  lunch at Kwan's Restaurant on South Commercial. Not only was the food excellent, the special attention that was given to the two diabetics in our group was outstanding.  To date, Kwan's is the only local restaurant we have been able to locate in Salem  that will provide a breakdown of their recipes, catering to dietary needs of many types, not only diabetics.

As trustee of Kharis Trust, a nonprofit organization providing support groups for children and adults with Type One and Type Two diabetes, finding a resource such as this was extremely important. With the annual diagnoses of diabetes at near epidemic levels, it is hoped that more businesses, particularly restaurants, will become aware of how they can make the lives of those suffering from this disease more comfortable.

Hats off to Kwan's for taking into consideration the importance of special dietary needs. We highly recommend them.
