KSND will be missed
I’m sad that KSND is gone. I hated their music and never listened, but still I will miss them. The last thing Salem needs is another media source that just repeats news and content from somewhere else. At least KSND was local. — Anonymous
KSND better than Clearchannel
One of the many problems with the radio is the consolidation of all of the government regulated air into one big corporate conglomerate like Clearchannel. To a lesser extent, this area has a very limited amount of frequencies already and the majority of them are simulcasting some other existing station (like KSND will soon be) or with full satellite syndication of the O’Reilly ilk (like “local” KYKN).
These little stations used to be about local happenings; you’d be able to hear someone sitting in a studio looking out their window and seeing the same things you would if you looked out your window. We lose a lot of our own culture by leaving it up to huge entities in New York or Los Angeles to tell us what we should like.
The sale of KSND to a station which plans to simulcast an existing station’s programming just points out that “success” in the radio industry is getting out as quick as possible. It definitely doesn’t have to with providing the community with a service or even what the community wants to listen to.
