A.P. Walther, publisher of Salem Monthly Newspaper, has announced the launch of a new Web site -- WillametteLive, the newest addition to Salem Monthly's parent company.

"This is not just a new Salem Monthly Web site," Walther said. "It is a new publication that extends our reach. It covers news and events in the Willamette Valley from the center out. Salem is still the focus but coverage is extensive."

Visitors to the Web site will find expanded information about events from Portland to Eugene, as well as the coast. There is news coverage of national and international events and how they impact Salem and the Willamette Valley. The new Web site also features more timely news.

"It is a place for people to check in daily to see what's happening in the local scene," Walther said. "Rather than monthly, we will have new content daily."

The site features a "Green Page" that includes news pertaining to the environment and tips on things we can all do to become more eco-friendly.

Another new feature is a free online classified system that allows visitors to list items they wish to sell, with an option to upgrade their listing to get printed in Salem Monthly.

Development Director Shawn Estes said the Web site fills a niche that is badly needed in the mid-valley region.

"The whole Mid-Willamette Valley is underrepresented by news outlets. The `local' TV stations are broadcasting from Portland or Eugene. We want to show that this area deserves as much news coverage as Portland or Eugene."

For Walther the new Web site means that visitors can enjoy all that Salem Monthly offers and much more.

"There is more opportunity to comment on content. It is highly interactive and participatory. It means more, more, more!"
