"Prom Night"Just what we need for a lovely spring weekend: a horrible horror remake. "Prom Night" is supposed to be a night to "die for." The obsessed killer who is chasing kids in formal dress is going to try for at least an hour to do just that. And out of all of the new movies, the horror slasher film is rated PG-13. Hello, junior high kids. Goodbye, adults. Yawn. "Prom Night" is playing at Regal Movieland 7, Regal Lancaster Mall Stadium 11, and Independence Cinema.
"Smart People"
Here I am looking at a Dennis Quaid movie as the best new movie out this weekend. Can someone make sure that the movie studio heads didn't go on strike? That's the only way that this could possibly happen. A literature professor (Dennis Quaid), complete with full-on beard and tweed jacket, is caught up in some family drama. He's about to start a relationship and his slacker brother (Thomas Haden Church) shows up on his doorstep. Sarah Jessica Parker, Ellen Page (Yes, from "Juno"), and Ashton Holmes also co-star. "Smart People" is rated R and is playing at Regal Santiam 11.
"Street Kings"
This one was close to getting the nod for what should be seen this weekend. Then a glance at the cast list revealed not one, but two rappers, as well as Pinnochio himself, Keanu Reeves. Not even Hugh Laurie and Forest Whitaker can save this one. The story is the typical cop movie. When Ludlow (Reeves)'s partner dies, he goes out to seek revenge. Leaving his supervisor (Whitaker) to try to keep him from breaking the law. Hugh Laurie plays the captain of the Internal Affairs division who is trying to catch Ludlow doing something illegal. "Street Kings" is rated R and is playing at Regal Santiam 11 and Independence Cinema.
