As part of their study of Immigration by Leagues nationwide, the League of Women Voters of Marion and Polk Counties will host a panel discussion on December 5, from 7 - 9 p.m. in the Anderson Room of the Salem Public Library. According the League of Women Voters press material, the purpose of the discussion is to learn the facts about immigration from national and international perspectives, to clear up the many misconceptions about the "free services" afforded to immigrants by U.S. citizens, and to hear the role the media plays in reporting on immigration issues.
The panelists are: James Nafziger, Professor of International Law from Willamette University College of Law; Brena Lopez, League of Women Voters' 2007 Legislative Coordinator and Local Attorney; and Dick Hughes, Statesman Journal Editorial Page Editor. Alan Bushong, Director of CCTV, will moderate.
The two-hour event will include a question-and-answer period after the panel presentation. For further information contact Kate Poole at (503) 399-5416. You can access more than 60 pages of educational information on Immigration at lwv.org.
