OMG! WTF, ground zero mosque whiners! Everyone from President Barack Obama to the world's most favorite quitter Sarah Palin have taken a stance on a Muslim cultural and prayer center near the World Trade Center in New York City.

There's only one problem: it's not new at all. According to a memo released by the Associated Press, who started the meme of "ground zero mosque" there have been Muslim prayer services in the same vicinity since 2009.

Tom Kent, the AP's deputy managing editor for standards and productions said in that memo: "it may be useful in some stories to note that Muslim prayer services have been held since 2009 in the building that the new project will replace." The memo goes on to point out that the proposed center is not at ground zero at all, but instead two blocks away. And four blocks away, stands Masjid Manhattan, a mosque that has been around for 40 years.

However, reality doesn't stop politicians from bickering.

Surprise, surprise! Rudy "9/11" Guiliani thinks the proposed construction may be too close to the World Trade Center site. But he's not alone. Republicans have stomped their collective feet at the audacity of President Obama pointing out that, perhaps, Muslims have the same right to construct a building as Christians do. They scream about the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks, but what they aren't talking about is the fact that they also voted against a new health care benefits package for people who worked at the ground zero site. Republicans have clearly pointed out that buildings can dishonor the deaths of the victims of terrorist attacks, but there's no honor in supporting the site's worker's health.

But not so fast, Democrats, you're not off the hook either. One mustn't look far before Senator Harry Reid's jello-like spine is exposed. He's said that he believes the mosque (and gym and swimming pool) should be built "some place else." Voters can look forward to Senator Reid and Marty McFly jumping in the Delorean to stop construction of the building. It's not hard to understand why Reid's running in a heated battle against a relatively unknown, who has suggested that she favors outlawing alcohol and even legislating morality ... in Nevada.

These representatives should take a page from the constitutional law professor that is in the Oval Office and read the first amendment. Must you be Christian to cling to your guns and religion? Those against the construction should consider whether they'd allow a church of their own denomination to be built at that site. Do our elected officials have nothing better to be doing than argue about the first amendment? Is this the election year issue that is most important to voters? OMG! WTF, ground zero mosque whiners?

In view of the times we are living in, truly testing the sense and sensibilities of the simple fact of knowing. (historically or the rights of man) A month ago life seemed to be reminiscent of apartheid South Africa. We obviously underestimate the emotional state of a people that has been traumatised over and over for many decades, by their leaders. The question remains. Does the truth or an objective point of view make a difference to the trauma victim or is this just the plain fact of a failure to acknowledge our own participation in the notion of tolerance and understanding. A predictable reaction. Like the dog and stone theory. Trying to mirror other countries policies on safety and security, immigration etc, is only making people more insecure and more xenophobic. Can we not be origional? Most of the worlds social problems is reflected within american society. Is it possible their is a connection or disconnection? Stop longing for the good old boy days.
