"August Rush"

A little boy creates music in an attempt to draw his estranged parents together for a fairy tale reunion. Freddie Highmore ("Finding Neverland") and Terrence Howard ("Hustle and Flow") must share the same agent, because they have both been in half of the movies out this past year. Felicity -- excuse me -- Keri Russell and Jonathan Rhys Meyers co-star.

"Bee Movie"

So funny that you had to bee there. And not a whole lot of people were. Despite the severe marketing blitz (including the Oscar presenter appearance) the movie didn't end up being the next "Shrek." It definitely followed the Shrek formula by casting popular live action actors as voice actors: Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zellweger, Uma Thurman, Alan Arkin, Robert Duvall, and Oprah Winfrey just to name a few.

"Dan in Real Life"

The funny guy in the mostly serious picture seems to be the norm of someone at the level of Steve Carrell, Mike Myers, or Jim Carrey. Carrey had "The Majestic" and Carrell has "Dan in Real Life." Carrell stars as a family advice columnist Dan, who falls for a stranger in a bookshop, only to find out that the woman is actually his brother (Dane Cook)'s new girlfriend. Can you say "awkward"?

"Hitman"

Timothy Olyphant plays Agent 47, a genetically engineered assassin who works for an exiled brother of the "Church." It's based on a long running video game of the same name, and had a less-than-stellar performance in its theatrical run. Pushing aside Olyphant's talent in past movies, this is just a movie about a video game. Things go boom. Popcorn goes crunch.

"Nancy Drew"

Nancy made a modern debut last summer and did relatively well for its genre. The world's most famous female sleuth (Screw you, Angela Lansbury) moves to Los Angeles to solve the death of a movie star. Clad in her signature plaid, Nancy not only has to solve the mystery but also fit in with stereotypical teenage girls at Hollywood High.

Why can't the Hardy Boys get a movie? The best that we Hardy Boys fans can get is a crappy television series that lasted half of a season. Hollywood, have your people call my people. I have a script ready for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as Frank and Joe.

"No Country for Old Men"

Here's a quick DVD release to grab all that fat Oscar cash. Joel and Ethan Coen bring their action-thriller to your DVD shelf today. In "No Country" a man stumbles upon a bloody crime scene, a pickup full of heroin and millions of dollars. He takes the money and starts a chain of violent acts across Texas and into Mexico. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy.

"Tin Man"

If it weren't for the cutesy Zooey Deschanel, this movie might not have made the list this week. "Tin Man" is a re-imagining of "The Wizard of Oz" with a bit more focus on the science fiction nature of the story. It originally aired on the Sci/Fi channel, so don't expect a whole lot out of it. Zooey and Alan Cumming turn in good enough performances to help you ignore the fact they call Oz,"The O.Z." -- yes like Orange County.
