There's only one wide release coming to this area today. And sadly, it doesn't appear to even be a good film. Now is a great time to watch a smaller-run movie at Salem Cinema, or catch up on older movies at Northern Lights Theatre Pub.At Regal Stadium 11 (at Lancaster Mall) -
"Awake" - Hayden Christensen plays a man who has anesthetic awareness during his heart surgery. He watches someone cut through his chest but is paralized and can't alert anyone that it's happening. But is it really happening or is it just a drug induced dream? Meanwhile, his wife, played by Jessica Alba, is dealing with her own issues and has to make life changing decisions. Anakin Skywalker and Dark Angel in a strangely unique drama, who could pass that up?
At Salem Cinema
"Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" - Sidney Lumet directs Oscar-winners Philip Seymour Hoffman and Marisa Tomei in this formulaic heist-gone-wrong movie. Hoffman plays Andy, who is in need of money, so he convinces his brother Hank to rob their parent's jewelry story. When the heist fails miserably, the family members turns on one another.
At Northern Lights
"Mr. Bean's Holiday" - Mr. Bean goes on holiday, but as is the case with Mr. Bean, things do not go as planned. In this addition to the Bean series, Mr. Bean wins a trip to Cannes where he accidentally separates a boy from his father and tries to help get the two back together.
"Stardust" - Charlie Cox stars a man trying to win the love of Sienna Miller. He embarks on a quest to retrieve a fallen star. Claire Danes, Robert DeNiro, and Michelle Pfeiffer also star.
"Ratatouille" - This movie follows a young rat named Remy, who dreams of becoming a French chef. Torn between his family's wishes and his calling, Remy and his human pal Linguini team up to pursue their dreams together.
"The Bourne Ultimatum" - The third (and final?) movie of the Bourne trilogy. This time we catch up with Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) as he comes out of hiding to discover who he is -- again. He discovers a series of articles written by Simon Ross (Paddy Considine) which reveal that he has top secret information about Treadstone, the project that trained Jason Bourne. U.S. intelligence official Noah Vosen (David Strathaim) also finds out the information and decides to eliminate all of the sources involved in the leak. Joan Allen returns as Pamela Landy to run the operation of tracking down Bourne and the intelligence leak. Read the full Bourne Ultimatum Review here.
"Elizabeth: The Golden Age" - Cate Blanchet returns to the role of Elizabeth in a sequel to the 1998 film "Elizabeth." Preparing to go to war for her kingdom, Elizabeth struggles with temptation.
"3:10 to Yuma" - A Western based on a short story by Elmore Leonard. In the movie, a rancher (Christian Bale) agrees to hold an outlaw (Russell Crowe) until his train comes to take him to stand trial. Shooting ensues.
"Superbad" - This coming of age comedy was written by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen at the ripe old age of 14. You can expect some of the high school humor to follow, even in the later rewrites. The main characters of "Superbad," Evan and Seth (strategically named after the writers) are high school friends.
They've spent a lot of time together and have built the kind of bond that only nerdy, outcast high school dudes can share. It's their senior year of high school and they have only one thing on their minds: losing their virginity. Read the full "Superbad" review here
"The Kingdom" - In this political drama, Jamie Foxx plays Ronald Fluery, an FBI agent who leads an investigation into a bombing of a U.S. military base in Saudi Arabia. One of the victims is a friend and colleague of the FBI, so the investigation hits close to home. The team must maneuver the political nature of sending U.S. citizens to supervise a crime committed in a foreign country while solving a murder.
