"Amazing Grace""Amazing Grace" tells the story of William Wilberforce, a British 18th Century abolitionist. The movie switches between an elder, sickly Wilberforce in 1797 and a younger more idealistic version of himself in 1789. Many people play key roles in the mission of Wilberforce, most outstanding is John Newton, played by Albert Finney, a former slaveholder who became a clergyman and spent the rest of his days repenting. The title of the movie comes from the name of John Newton's hymn. "Amazing Grace" is directed by Michael Apted ("49 Up") and written by Steven Knight. ("Dirty Pretty Things")
