According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, if every American home replaced just one light bulb with an Energy Star qualified bulb, we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year, more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.

Energy Star's 8th annual Change a Light, Change the World Campaign encourages every American to change at least one inefficient light in their home to one that has earned the Energy Star label. To save the most energy and money, their Web site recommends replacing your home's highest use fixtures.  These are typically the kitchen ceiling lights, the living or family room table and floor lamps, and outdoor porch or post lamp.

Marion County has signed up to participate in the 8th annual Energy Star Change a Light, Change the World Campaign. The three counties that collect the most pledges will receive national recognition. Also, when a Marion County resident signs the pledge, they will receive a $3 coupon off a compact fluorescent bulb at Office Depot. To receive the coupon they must click on the Office Depot link after they've signed the pledge. Visit www.naco.org/changealight to sign the pledge.
