"The Kite Runner"
The best movie of 2007. No, not "No Country for Old Men" -- the actual best movie of last year. It's the daring tale of a lifelong friendship. Two Afghani boys, Amir and Hasan, grew up in Afghanistan before the invasion of Soviet Russia. It's not quite the violent Afghanistan we see on the news today, but a poor, peaceful community where children fly kites for entertainment. Social status is important, but despite that Amir is still close friends with Hasan. Betrayal and dishonor puts the friendship to the test after years of estrangement. We covered this movie when it made its brief theatrical debut in December - check out The Kite Runner sails into theatres
"The Mist"
Stephen King doesn't have much luck on video. A canceled TV show, many made-for-TV movies, and a couple straight to DVD releases mar the track record of his adaptations. There was some hope for "The Mist" though. Out of all the movies that have been created from King's material, this is the one that actually has some fans. When a dense mist settles over a small town, a small group of citizens is stuck in a supermarket to fight for their lives. Thomas Jane stars.
"Bonnie and Clyde"
I know. This is not a new movie. It's the attempt of Warner Bros to get more of our hard earned cash. This 2-disc set is being billed as the "Ultimate Collector's Edition." The discs contain a new transfer of the movie made from the original negative/prints, the full-length History Channel documentary about the real Bonnie and Clyde, a three-part documentary about the making of the film and two newly discovered deleted scenes.
