If you go into a lot of large cities, there are posters for upcoming events plastered on the sides of buildings but, here in Salem, we've always been a little too refined for that. Instead, we have nice little kiosks where those posters can be posted. Well, actually we had kiosks.
In late May, the City decided to remove those kiosks and said that hanging posters in coffee shops and other local business should be enough. While various Salemites took this as a slight, local musician Julian Snow took it as a call to arms.
He began his stand by, well, standing. He spent an afternoon standing where one of the kiosks had been and allowing people to post notices on him. Then he and his band, Mill Race, went into the studio to record an ode to this dilemma, "The Moral Kiosks." The track starts with the refrain, "Janet, Janet, Janet, Don't you get it?" and goes on to list some of the many uses of the kiosks. It's available for download at the band's MySpace page.
