Auditions are fun for awhile, and Hollywood Week has its moments, but I was so ready for the real AI show to start. Tonight we were treated to two solid hours of mediocre performances - with a sprinkling of brilliance, which made for a great night of TV.

Now that we're down to the Top 24, I can start using their actual names. Here's my take on the guys:

David Hernandez - He started the night off on a good note, but unfortunately, by the end of the evening he was completely forgettable. Fortunately, he is a cute boy and there is no reason he should be voted off any time soon. Although if he were voted off, it wouldn't break my heart.

Chikezie - Or should I say Chi-cheesy? Yikes. The suit, the song, the arguing with the judges. It was all too much for me. Why do contestants think that it's a good thing to give Simon attitude? News flash: It's NOT! Most of us respect - and agree with - Simon's opinion. In fact, many people watch the show merely to see what he'll say next. So put a sock in it Chi-cheesy. You're a sideshow.

David Cook - Here is a boy with promise. I like his look; I liked his performance; I like his laid-back attitude. He comes off professional and cool. He probably won't win the competition, but I definitely hope he sticks around to the Top 12.

Jason Yeager - I liked him much more when I saw that he had a kid. It gave him some much-needed depth. Then he sang. And even the cutie in the crowd couldn't help that performance. Yikes. Jason can go.

Robbie Carrico - Robbie was a real disappointment to me. I had high hopes for this rocker (and Jay of Jay and Silent Bob fame lookalike), but unfortunately his performance was only so-so. He'll easily get enough votes to bring him into the next round and then hopefully we can see some of his better stuff.

David Archuleta - What is not to love about this kid? He is about the cutest thing in the world, plus he can perform like nobody's business. Simon's right, this kid's a natural. I look forward to seeing him through the competition. He could be one of the Top 3.

Danny Noriega - Does this ever happen to you? You watch a performance and think, "That was pretty good." And then Simon comes in and says it was "grotesque" and then you go back, re-evaluate and realize, "My god, he's right!" That's what happened tonight on Danny's performance. It appeared to put on a high energy, rockin' show, but upon reflection, there was a certain edge of, well, psychosis attached to it. But Danny is different enough and interesting enough to make it through the next few rounds at least. Whether he makes it to the Top 12 is anyone's guess.
Luke Menard - Who was he again? Point made. Buh-bye.

Colton Berry - This kid gets a big "ehh" from me. I'm kind of with Simon, Politician Boy would have made a much more interesting contestant. I'm completely indifferent to him - and indifference does not an Idol make.

Garret Haley - Garret is an interesting looking young lad, who we didn't see much of during auditions or Hollywood Week. For this reason I was looking forward to his audition. But - yawn - just thinking - yawn - about it makes me tired. He was a huge disappointment.

Jason Castro - And now - drum roll please - the high point of the evening. Jason, like Garret, was an interesting looking young lad, who we didn't see much of during auditions or Hollywood Week. But unlike Garret, he knocked my socks off. His performance was authentic, creative and energetic. I love this boy. He is definitely one to watch in this competition, and my personal favorite right now.

Michael Johns - Simon could not have been more right on about Michael. He has a great voice and is consistent. It was nice to end the show on a strong note.

Here are my picks to get the boot: As much as I hate Chikezie, he will probably stick around at least another round. He was, at least, memorable. Garret's hair will probably keep him around for awhile longer, which leaves us with Jason Yeager, Luke Menard and Colton Berry. All three of them can go as far as I'm concerned.

Meanwhile, I'm ready to see Hot Nurse bust out some good stuff tomorrow. Let's hope she and the other girls can handle the heat.
