America may have voted correctly on the bottom three (or "spot on" as Simon said), but they did not send the right person home tonight. Tonight's bottom three included Syesha Mercado, who offered an uninspiring version of "Got to Get You Into My Life," David Hernandez, who butchered "I Saw Her Standing There" and Kristy Lee Cook who did the worst performance of the night with her country version of "Eight Days a Week." Yet somehow the producers have decided to do yet another Beatles night next week. Why? So we can be treated to a hip hop version of "Yesterday"? Or "Paperback Writer" ala Barry White?
Kristy Lee Cook, who has delivered bad performance after bad performance somehow skated her way into the next round, while David Hernandez, who definitely had an off-night has shown that he is worthy of being in the Top Twelve. Unfortunately last night's stripper moves did him no favors.
Syesha definitely deserves another chance, although her time on the big stage will be limited. She used to have a great big voice, but the new stage has sucked all the life out of it.
It was actually slightly surprising to see Syesha in the bottom three. I had expected David, Kristy and Ramiele, who seems to think she can get through this competition on her cute factor alone. I'm betting (and hoping) that America will soon grow tired of her.
To push what should be a 30-minute episode into an hour, the producers incorporated a live question segment. VoteForTheWorst.com says they were "staged calls from crew families." Hmmm ... Either way the questions were boring and some of them didn't even make sense. For that matter, neither did the answers.
Katharine McPhee performed and although I am not a huge fan of hers, this was certainly not a bad performance (especially in the wake of yesterday's fiasco).
The low point of the night was definitely watching Kristy walk back to her seat and knowing that we will be treated to yet another week of her pathetic attempt to sing anything besides her signature "Amazing Grace."
