Idoltude: American Idol hits Hollywood

Question: How many cute young guys does it take to win American Idol? Answer: I don't know, but I'm sure gonna stick around to find out.

Today's Idol episode bid goodbye to much of the dead-weight that was brought to Hollywood. There were some surprises for sure - the big black boy and his sister were a major disappointment. And where was the pair of black girls who were so much fun in auditions? No word at all from them. I had high hopes for both the single dad and the woman with the disabled child, but sadly both folded under the pressure.

Not surprisingly, many of the blonds - or dandelions (see last week's Idoltude for an explanation) were sent packing. Hallelujah!

So instead of this being the Year Of The Blond, it's going to be the Year Of The Talented Boy. I couldn't count on two hands how many excellent performances were put out by some of these blokes.

I know, I know, Boy Who Lives In His Car sucked it up pretty good towards the end. Nevertheless, I hope he makes it through. He'll make for some good TV. The biggest stand-out of the night was the 16-Year-Old Cutie who played on his keyboard and who Simon described as "young, good looking, likable and can sing, which isn't a bad place to be, is it?" Okay, that's not a direct quote, but that was the gist of it. And is that cute boy ever likable! I just wanted to squeeze his little cheeks.

I was wrong about who the next Sanjaya is, though. Latin Lover went home. Instead, it's shaping up to be Politician Boy. Check him out:

It was fun to watch him succeed in the beginning rounds (you gotta occasionally root for the underdog), but if he sticks around too much longer, there may be a faux-hawk in his future.

Here's hoping that Boy-Who-Lives-In-Car stays around to cry every time something doesn't quite go his way. The Selma, Oregon chick is uninteresting, she got a lot of screen time during the auditions. Then they didn't even highlight her NOT getting kicked off.

Boy-Who-Lives-In-Car and the hot nurse (Amanda?) should do duets. She could flash the rock devil horns and make him cry..a lot.

I also hope that Josiah makes it through. I have a feeling he won't, because it does look like the field is very strong. I am not bothered by his breaking down, he's 18, he's lived in a car for a year, I am sure he is worn very thin emotionally. I just hope that if he does make it, he can get the confidence he needs to build up his emotional strength, because as sympathetic as I am for him, I also realize that the audience would quickly lose sympathy for him, no matter how tough his last year has been.

And of course, there are always the people who love to kick someone when they are down.

On another note, I love, love, love David A.  What a great, likeable kid, and what a great voice.
