The girls came out tonight to show up the boys. Unfortunately, all they really did was show up. But really, who can watch the show anymore when Ryan and Simon have an annoying and uncomfortable spat every time Simon voices his opinion? GIVE IT A REST YOU TWO. Simon is there to say surprising, outlandish (and usually TRUE) criticism of the contestants. So please, let him do what he is grossly overpaid to do. It's why most of us watch the show. Here's my take on the girls:
Kristy Lee Cook - Our resident Oregonian made less than a splash in tonight's show with a sad little performance that lacked energy or personality. Sorry, sweetie. I guess you sold your horse for nothing.
Joanne Borgella - I had high hopes for our plus-sized model, but alas, she was also a bit of a disappointment. Here's my question: why did she congratulate herself on having such a different voice than what would be expected - i.e. NOT soulful - and then turn around and take on Aretha frickin' Franklin? She'll probably stick around, but not for too much longer.
Alaina Whitaker - Surprisingly, this girl is not that bad. When she first appeared I thought she was going to be forgettable - just another blond - but she's actually got a cute little personality and not a bad voice. She may be around for awhile.
Amanda Overmyer - Oh, Hot Nurse. How you disappoint. I was all geared up for a kick-ass performance, and it fell flat. I was confused, much like Simon. Ah, well. I haven't given up completely. I have a feeling she'll make it through to the next round on her unique look and raspy voice, and maybe next time we'll get the rockin' performance we've been waiting for.
Amy Davis - How many times does Simon have to say it? YOUTH, people! You are blessed with it, now stop hiding it beneath grotesque performances and creepy costumes. Yikes. See yah, Scary Spice.
Brooke White - This little goody two-shoes gets on my last nerve. So she can sing. But to sing really well, she needs to go live a little. Watch an R-rated movie. Get drunk. Have sex. Oh, and Mick Jagger called. He wants his look back.
Alexandrea Lushington - AlexandrEA (NOT AlexANdrea, Ryan) was the pleasant surprise of the night. She came out and gave a rockin' performance that was young, creative and energetic. Simon may not have gotten it, but I definitely did and so far she's my favorite girl.
Kady Malloy - I took a short nap here.
Asia'h Epperson - Great show. Good performance. Interesting voice - she kind of sounds like she went to the fair and rode the roller coaster too many times. But I like it. Very Lauren Bacall. Encore, encore.
Ramiele Malubay - Man, these girls have complex names. Tiny, adorable little Ramiele did a great job. I've had my eye on her from day one, and she didn't disappoint. I wasn't AS excited as the judges were, but she was definitely passable, and certainly consistent.
Syesha Mercado - Again, with these names. This was the best performance of the night I thought. The judges could have given her more props, because the girl buh-rought it. I hope to see her in the Top 3.
Carly Smithson - Oh. My. God. I am sooooo with Simon on this one. There is WAY too much hype around this girl. Why? She's strange looking, has zero personality and an annoying on-again off-again accent. Yeah, she can sing, but tonight's performance was only so-so. And does anyone else get the feeling that Randy just says what he thinks other people are going to say? He has been way off the mark several times this season. I wonder if he ever changes his mind later or wishes he had something else.
My pick for girls to go home this week is definitely Amy Davis and Kady Malloy. Of course, VoteForTheWorst.com will probably pull for one of them - probably Amy, meaning that we may say good-bye to Kristy instead. Eh. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, right?
