Last week's episode of American Idol was so incredibly bad that I went into this week's with a full bottle of wine and plenty of chocolate just in case. Turned out, it wasn't so bad.
Omaha brought us better singers and much more entertaining auditions. Also the AI producers put together a couple funny bits as well as a gag-me musical montage of horrible singers butchering the same song. Good times.
But we still have not seen spectacular this year. Remember when Paris tried out in Season Five? In walked this adorable 16-year-old girl who could BELT Billie Holiday like nobody's business. She was an instant showstopper. Season Six's Lakisha brought the same energy. So far this season completely lacks that "Wow" factor.
Yeah, the last guy was pretty good. So were a couple of the guys. What were their names again? Oh and there was that one girl with the brown hair -- you know, she sang while Ryan and Simon played catch with that big ball of machismo. Talk about awkward TV.
I was surprised and pleased that they let the guy who forgot the lyrics go through. It's always nice to throw someone a bone, especially a cute little farmer. And speaking of bones, how about that boy at the beginning who, after being turned down for his voice, charmed his way into being a FOX correspondent? He's cute, too, though. And who knows? Perhaps his over-eager, slightly pathetic babble will be endearing on the red carpet.
For the most part tonight's episode was fun. And isn't that why we go back week after week? Let's hope tomorrow's episode keeps the momentum going. But just to be on the safe side, I'll have my wine and chocolate close at hand.
