Had tonight's episode of American Idol been the first one I'd ever seen, I would probably never watch the show again. I would even venture to guess that had this been the first season of AI, it probably would have been promptly cancelled. After a string of so-so singers, some of whom were seemingly put through (or not) at random, and huge hype over a baby that only led to a so, so BAD singer, perhaps America's favorite past time has stalled. Unfortunately, this comes in the midst of the writer's strike, when American's are at their hungriest for really good TV. What a shame.
In yesterday's Idoltude, I gave directions to a drinking game that would get you through a typical AI episode. But desperate times call for desperate measures and if next week's episodes are anything like this week's, we're all going to need to up the ante a bit.
In that spirit (pun intended) I have added these rules: Take a shot every time someone attempts to sing a Whitney Houston song. Take a double shot if you already were afraid to watch their audition and THEN they announce they are singing Whitney. If a contestant argues with Simon, CHUG. Stop once they are led out by security or you pass out, whichever comes first. Take an extra shot if you would prefer to pass out. When Paula offers an awkward and obviously contrived compliment to an undeserving contestant, finish the bottle.
Cheers!
