Idoltude: American Idol Top 24 doesn't hold very many surprises

This year's Top 24 picks were fairly predictable. The only real surprise was that Boy Who Lives In His Car and Politician Boy were sent packing. Politician Boy was a surprise mostly because of Simon's reaction. Where did THAT come from? I expected him to be swept through and to become our next Sanjaya. Sadly that role doesn't appear to be filled yet. But who knows, there could be a sleeper in the group.

I was sad to see Boy Who Lives In His Car go. But as one smart reader pointed out, his sob story may have grown old after awhile, especially if he used it as a crutch. Excellent point, Anonymous Hero.

Irish Girl went flying through like we all knew she would. Paula is totally hot for her. I, on the other hand, am totally digging Hot Nurse. She is so cool and I can't wait to see more from her. Oregon Girl made it, but I'm hoping she'll be voted off soon. I am so over her and her "Amazing Grace."

Sixteen-Year-Old-Cutie is still in the running, as we all knew he would be. And don't forget, he was also the one suffered from VOCAL PARALYSIS. In case you didn't get enough cute tonight, check him out one more time:

One contestant who I'm looking forward to getting to know is New Dreadlock Boy:

He shows some interesting promise and I don't think the camera has given him enough (read:ANY) attention. I think I'd remember that hair. If he has an unforgettable voice, too, then we could be in for a treat.

Remember Old Dreadlock Boy?

He auditioned that first week in Philadelphia and showed a lot of promise, but then we never really saw him again. Ah well, another AI casualty.

Now fans are faced with voting off yet another layer of baggage - the ones who sing on the big stage and we look at each other and say "How did THEY make it all the way through?" And every year there seems to be no shortage.

Right now I'm hoping to see 16-Year-Old Cutie, Hot Nurse and Australian Guy (aka Bohemian Rhapsody Boy) in the Top Twelve. But I'm going to keep my eye on that slew of young men. After all, it is The Year Of The Talented Boy and who knows who may step up and surprise us.

Goodbye, Boy Who Lives in Car (#1)

It was a sad moment. Watching someone with talent destroy themselves with a touch of ego. Do you think Simon identified with Josiah? But you've got to admit that his Hollywood finale was horrible. I've seen drunken karoake singers perform better. And slapping the producers in the face and kicking the band off stage? That's not the way it works. Sure, it's too bad he's had a bad year. But that was his chance, and despite the addition of a voice coach and a bed to sleep - dude screwed up. Maybe his inspiration is in his car.

Hot nurse is my pick for the winner. Though the raspy voice may grow old on the Idolholics who will vote to get rid of people regardless of whether they can sing or not. Maybe she'll at least get an album out.

And Ryan Seacrest has got to stop saying it's the best contestants ever. I think from this 24 it'd be easy to pick 5 and skip the rest of the weeks. If only we knew their names. I'd probably vote Hot Nurse more than Amanda though.

Remember Hollywood is not America, everyone. Unless of course you are trying to win American Idol, which is in Hollywood, but not America. My god, I don't think I understand the subliminal message of the "Goodbye" song this year.
