Idoltude: Amanda Overmyer gets the axe on American Idol

Tonight's result show had three women (no shock there) in the bottom three - Amanda Overmyer, Carly Smithson and Kristy Lee Cook.

Amanda and Carly were a bit of a surprise, although a pleasant one. Neither of their performances were anywhere near as bad as Ramiele's, but Amanda did basically the same thing as last week and Carly is just not likable enough to win the competition. I'm glad to see that America is not as enamored with her as Paula is. Get a room, ladies.

After yesterday's performance, I came to the solemn understanding that Kristy will be with us until the end, since she publicly told Simon she was willing to "blow" his socks off. She tried to cover up and pretend that she meant "blow" as in sing, but we all know the truth.

The great thing about Amanda is that she brought an element of surprise to the show. Sometimes it was crazy, blown-back lion hair; sometimes it was scary striped pants. But always we held our breath wondering just how horrifically screeching and grating her voice would sound. There were nights when she was downright decent and gave a good performance. There were others when she sounded like a dying goose. Either way, I'd take 400 Amandas over pathetic, forgettable Kristy who will continue to haunt the show with her countrified remakes and god-awful vocals.

We also get another week of Ramiele Ragdoll and her boring, lifeless performances. But kudos to Michael Johns tonight for admitting that he peaked during Hollywood Week. Too bad Syesha can't come to terms with that as well.

That was a shocker! Amanda is very unique and will be missed. A group card has been started for Amanda. Stop by and leave her a personal message... http://www.squidnote.com/c/qklSVV9RbvG
