Recently Salem Monthly reported on Organic Fresh Fingers' efforts to embrace Salem as its home base. For over a year, it has been supplying organic lunches to preschools and day care centers in the Willamette Valley. According to Evann Remington, CEO/President of Organic Fresh Fingers, as the company grows things are also looking more promising in Salem. "It's still a little bit slow-moving but we're working on it," Remington said. "We are getting hundreds of inquiries from Salem parents and we think that with the retail products available, there will be pressure from parents on local daycares and preschools for them to start making better food choices for the kids."
Its Salem customers now include both Family Building Blocks locations, and the company recently added Chemeketa Community College's Child Development Center.
Customer Sue Miller, executive director of Family Building Blocks, says she is proud to serve high-caliber nutritious foods.
"In addition to nutritious meals, the convenience of delivery and bulk pricing were key elements in our decision to try Organic Fresh Fingers," Miller said.
It's this demand that has led Organic Fresh Fingers to increase their full-time staff from two to four. They now also offer retail products in local stores: a new line of six tasty, easy, healthy frozen lunches for kids. All of the lunches are vegetarian, some are vegan, and there is also one wheat-free option. In March, LifeSource Natural Foods and Roth's in Salem started carrying these new products. Other retailers in the Willamette Valley include Whole Foods, Market of Choice, Food Front, People's Food Co-op, and Alberta Cooperative.
