River enthusiasts map water trails for Willamette

Willamette Riverkeeper is dedicated to the protection and restoration of the Willamette River through a combination of education, advocacy, and volunteer activism. Willamette Riverkeeper, along with Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and other partners, have worked to provide the Willamette River Water Trail, which is now completely mapped from Eugene to Portland. So far over 7,000 trail guides have been distributed.

Two guides are available to view and print for free online, or you can purchase more extensive guides for $10. For information visit willamette-riverkeeper.org.

To purchase a guide call Willamette Riverkeeper at (503) 223-6418. Online purchasing options will be available soon. Or mail a check to Willamette Riverkeeper, 1515 SE Water Ave #102, Portland, Oregon, 97214.

Straub Center to sponsor lecture series in 2008

The Friends of Straub Environmental Learning Center will again host monthly lectures in 2008.

On January 31, Dr. Scott Burns, Professor of Geology at Portland State University, will discuss the story behind the discovery of more than 90 Ice Age floods from ancient Lake Missoula and how they dramatically shaped the Oregon and Washington landscape.

The event will be held at Salem Public Library's Loucks Auditorium from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. The center holds workshops and classes throughout the year. For other events, visit fselc.org.

Straub Center also is seeking volunteers to help with work crews to remove invasive species, fundraising, assistance at events, public relations, and volunteer coordination. For information e-mail fselc@fselc.org or call (503) 391-4145.
