Dear Madge,
I'm a 20-something bi-curious male. I've experimented with men before but never found it to my liking. Lately I've been hanging out with a nice-looking, fun gay man about my age.
I know he's into me, and I've entertained the notion of trying something with him, but I still have reservations. Should I go for it and risk ruining our friendship if it doesn't work out? Or should I just stick with chicks?
Sincerely,
Curious But Nervous
Dear Curious,
Seriously, chicks are overrated. And so is friendship. Friends come and go, but a night of passionate sex, now THAT will be with you forever. Examine what it is you are REALLY afraid of and address it. We can probably rule out fear of rejection, since by your own admission he’s “into” you. We can also probably rule out the first time jitters, since you’ve already “experimented” with men. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that perhaps you are stigmatized by some archaic anti-gay notion that’s subconsciously eating away at you. Go on. Feel it. Embrace it. Okay, now let it go. Very good. Don’t you feel better now? You’re 20-something. So go out there and have a good time with anyone or anything that you have a hankering for. Starting with this cute boy.
