Dear Madge,
My best friend and I are having a dispute that we think you might be able to help us solve. My boyfriend and I have just gotten engaged and we have decided to have a two-year engagement. My friend thinks we should only be engaged for one year because that's the "normal" thing to do. I think we should do whatever we feel like and I can't understand why others just can't accept that. Please help.

Dear Long,
What you "should" do depends entirely on what you and, in this case, your boyfriend want to do. This is a pretty minor problem, Chica. Most reasonable people don't put this much stock in what their friends say. Decide what you want to do and stop letting people "should" all over you.
