"10,000 B.C."Me, Tarzan. You, watch my DVD. Okay, it's not really Tarzan, but it might as well be. Instead of Tarzan, the star is a young hunter named D'Leh who has fallen in love and has to save his princess. Pyramids, mammoths and other prehistoric predators lie in his wake.
"Charlie Bartlett"
Wisecracking Charlie Bartlett (Anton Yelchin) is always one step ahead of the adults in his life. The film chronicles his journey to becoming popular at his new public high school by dealing prescription drugs. Doping up his classmates seems to work well, until things go horribly wrong. Robert Downey Jr co-stars, giving this film its only light. See our full review at Charlie Bartlett not what the doctor order.
"Definitely, Maybe"
Ryan Reynolds stars in this flick about a man reminiscing about his past loves with his daughter played by Abigail Breslin. The twist is that Reynolds' character hides the identity of his daughter's mom throughout the story. It's a unique romantic comedy told through the voice of Ryan Reynolds. The interludes with Breslin prove to be the meat of the story. For a full review, visit Definitely, maybe a good movie.
"In Bruges"
Two hit men (Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson) are ordered to lay low in the city of Bruges, Belgium. Like fish out of water, the two men get drawn into confrontations with citizens, tourists, and a movie shoot. As their stay extends, they realize that their boss (Ralph Fiennes) may have other plans for them.
"Persepolis"
Salem Cinema had a good run of this animated film. "Persepolis" follows the story of an Iranian girl during the Islamic Revolution. Bold and outspoken, the girl causes her parents to be worried about her safety in their changing surroundings. At 14, she is sent to a school in Austria, where she deals with the stereotypes of being Iranian in high school.
"The Spiderwick Chronicles"
Another attempt at the Harry Potter movie success didn't go so well. Not that it did horribly bad; it brought in $71 million. Freddie Highmore ("Finding Neverland") stars with David Strathaim, Mary-Louise Park, Martin Short, and Nick Nolte backing him up. It will at least hold over the Potter fans who are jonesing for the next movie.
