Dear Madge,
I work in the retail business and I train all of our new associates.  One of our new "stars" on the floor is someone I personally trained for the past three months, which I am very proud of. However, yesterday during a management meeting my boss took all the credit for this employee and was rewarded a weekend getaway to the coast. HELLO! I can't believe he did this to me.  When I approached him about it he said, "Let's not forget that I hired you, so I take all the credit for MY employees doing such a good job." I know I shouldn't feel so petty about it, and that I should be working for the "team," but how can I trust my boss after this?
-- Stabbed In The Back

Dear Stabbed,
Someone is missing from this story. HELLO! How about the "star" salesperson? Did he/she get rewarded a weekend getaway to the coast for busting his/her butt? I think not. And had the trip been offered to you I doubt you would have taken the high road and turned it down in favor of said butt buster.  The bottomline: Your boss isn't supposed to be your BFF. He's supposed to be your boss. So stop worrying about whether you can trust him and take the immortal words of Donald Trump to heart: "It's not personal, it's just business."
