Dear Madge,
What has happened to the concept of customer service? I am an older person who can remember when you walked into a store or placed an order over the phone, the person you dealt with was courteous and tried everything to help you.

Nowadays, you could fall over with a heart attack and nobody would even care. Madge please remind your readers that customers who spend money are the very people who pay salaries to these workers.

It seems that this younger generation has forgotten the simplicity of being courteous and helpful to people. I for one have decided to do more of my shopping over the Internet.
-- Not Being Served

Dear Not Being Served,

Let's assume, for argument's sake, that you are the sweetest, most mild-tempered person who ever walked the face of the earth and that you NEVER snap at sales people when they don't live up to your standards. Let's also assume you have put your time in working retail and that you're not a cranky, spoiled old lady who has lived off of Daddy's inheritance your whole adult life. If all that is true and every salesperson you run into STILL is unacceptable, then I wholeheartedly agree with you. But the fact that you signed your letter "Not Being Served" leads me to doubt that any of those assumptions are true. So get over yourself. Salespeople are -- get ready -- people. Treat them as such and you may be pleasantly surprised.
