Silverton offers classes for those off the beaten path
While photography, painting, and other such artistic pursuit may be common course work, but in January, Silverton Arts Association offers classes for those who wish to learn more about craft style art.
It may not be "high" art, but for those curious to learn how to knit, make mosaics, or construct paper art there's a time and a place.
From Jan. 11-25, a three session beginner knitting class is scheduled. Join the more than 50 million people who know how to knit, crochet and create items with yarn. "Basic Knitting" is held in the SAA Park House from 6-8 p.m. and cost $80 with materials provided.
Artist and teacher Reanna O'Conner teaches the basic techniques of design and construction in a six week mosaic art class. Students are able to experiment using a project of their own choosing. Mosaic art costs $90, including materials, and runs Jan. 9- Feb. 12 from 9:30-12: p.m. A four session course running from Jan. 9-30 in the SAA Park House teaches participants creative way to embellish old manuscript. This "Altered Book Class" held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. is where these books can be recycled into art by using decorations, paint, and other materials to alter the piece. The cost for this course is $80 with an additional $10 materials fee.
Parisian painter and printmakers work at Hallie Ford
John Franklin Koenig's show at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art features a small selection of his art created over his career, which was mostly based in the French capitol.
From January 9-March 17 Koenig's "Works on Paper," showcases a range of prints crated from the 1950 through the 1990's.
A self-taught artist, Koenig's style reflects many influences, including collage and Japenese art.
This WWII veteran was also inspired by the Bauhaus spirit in which artists were trained in many disciplines, thus he worked in various media throughout his career.
Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for seniors and students. Children younger than 12 are admitted free, and Tuesday is an admission-free day.
