Geraldine Ferraro resigned from the Clinton campaign after accusations that she was racist. Obama's pastor has been kicked out of the Senator's committee on African-American religious leadership committee. The fires continue to be stoked between Clinton and Obama and John McCain is sliding by allowing both Democratic candidates to destroy themselves. The Republicans are joining together to fill any gaps that they had in their primary. Romney has practically begged McCain to be his vice president after their heated debates. Nothing says togetherness like groveling. But the Democrat on Democrat attacks and the Republican nominee sitting high without any opposition is troublesome.
This isn't something that is only happening on the Fox News Channel. A DailyKos writer has gone "on strike" against the liberal blog: "They've routinely ignored personal attacks and allowed disruptive, spam-like posts to go unchecked whenever anyone expresses support for Hillary or challenges something their candidate has said or done."
It's okay to support one Democrat or the other. But the Democratic leaders and steering communities, like DailyKos, should be embracing both candidates as being better than John McCain. And the candidates themselves should be using their platforms to declare the Democrats better than John McCain.
Obama and Clinton have similar policies. They have practically the same experience, and may be able to achieve some of the same things if they are elected. Right now, the Democrats should be joining forces to run against the only person they really disagree with: John McCain.
It's time to stop arguing amongst ourselves about whether supporting or not supporting Barack is racist and whether supporting or not supporting Hillary is sexist. It's time for the Democratic Party to unite against the Republican Party.
