On February 18 Tommy Thai opened its doors in the same location as the former Siam Authentic Thai Cuisine. The new menu has 71 items and offers photos of every dish to aid the selection process. We came in midday and ordered from their lunch menu, which featured 17 items, each for $7 served with a small salad, appetizer (egg roll) and rice (except for the noodle dishes). The main dishes came with a choice of chicken, beef pork or tofu and various levels of spiciness are also offered.
We were pleasantly surprised to find sushi rolls on the menu so we ordered the Spicy Tuna Roll and California Gold Roll each for $5.95. The staff brought our sushi order out promptly but cautioned us that when they are busy, they would take about 20 minutes to prepare.
My wife ordered the Chicken Yellow Curry and I had Phad Thai noodles. The curry was generously laden with chicken thigh meat and potatoes in a mild coconut milk curry. My Phad Thai had chicken, and was a bit on the sweet side for my taste so I asked for some fish sauce on the side. I prefer it with lime, cilantro and fish sauce flavors, but the sweeter version appears about half the time in restaurants I have sampled.
The extensive menu offers many tastes and choices so I am sure most appetites will find satisfaction with their bill o' fare. The marvelous tapestry from the previous owners remains with some new Siamese décor and black lacquered tables and tall planters break up the room into intimate seating arrangements and add to the ambiance.
The service was very attentive and our first impression warrants a return visit some evening to try some of the entrees like the Eggplant Delight or Phad Pra-Ram that caught our attention.
