Beginning this September, weekday morning preschool classes will be held at A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village. The addition of the preschool adds another, more formal learning environment to the museum that is known for its hands-on learning in science and art."The museum is an ideal learning center," said Sylvia Halsey, Education Director for A.C. Gilbert Discovery Village.
Registration is open now, but is limited to 15 students per class. Classes will be held in Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday sessions. The museum hopes this preschool is different from other schools.
"Its focus [will be] on the big ideas of science, mathematics, literacy and the arts," Halsey said.
Following the museum's philosophy that playing is essential to learning, the classes will pose questions, encourage exploration, and test ideas through play both in the classroom and using the museum's expansive exhibits.
Parents should not feel left out of the preschool process. According to Halsey, the program is designed to incorporate the parent as a learning partner. To find out more or to register visit acgilbert.org.
