"21"
"21" follows the pursuits of a group of students counting cards in Vegas to earn big money. Cards, Kate Bosworth being flirtly, and Kevin Spacey being dastardly: It's got all the makings of a good movie. Unfortunately it fell flat. We've got a full review at 21 busts theatres. It's rated PG-13 and is playing at Regal Movieland 7 and Regal Lancaster Mall Stadium 11.
"The Hammer"
Hello, horrible Adam Corolla movie. Corolla plays an underachiever (a stretch for him) who loses his job and his girlfriend on his 40th birthday. But things take a turn for the better when a famous boxing coach sees him sparring at the local gym and offers him some training for the U.S. Olympic boxing team. If you walk into this movie, expect to sit through an hour and a half of Corolla getting beat up. "The Hammer" is rated R and is playing at Regal Lancaster Mall Stadium 11.
"Run, Fat Boy, Run"
A charming, overweight guy takes on the role of the "runaway bride" and bails on his fiancee on their wedding day. Years later he figures out that he actually loves her. For some reason or another, he has to finish a marathon (hence, the running) while trying to win her back. Going through the cast list made me rethink my original negative outlook on the movie. Simon Pegg (of the fantastic "Shaun of the Dead"), Thandie Newton ("Crash," "The Pursuit of Happyness"), and Hank Azaria (who's in every movie) seem like a sure bet. David Schwimmer directs. We'll have to see how well Ross can pull it off. "Run, Fat Boy, Run" is rated PG-13 and is playing at Regal Movieland 7 and Regal Santiam 11.
"Superhero Movie"
Hollywood! I thought we had an agreement that you would stop making parody movies. And worst yet, you've made a movie parodying super hero movies. Really? The synopsis of this flick isn't really that creative. A high school loser gets bitten by a genetically altered dragonfly (a la Spiderman). He gains armored skin and superhuman abilities to become "The Dragonfly." Oh and there's also a villain named Lou Landers (think: Lex Luthor) who becomes a super villain named "The Hourglass." Like every other parody movie, Pamela Anderson makes an appearance. "Superhero Movie" is rated PG-13 and is playing at Regal Movieland 7, Regal Lancaster Mall Stadium 11, and Independence Cinema.
"Stop-Loss"
Decorated Iraq war hero Brandon King (Ryan Phillipe) makes a much-celebrated return to his small Texas hometown after his tour of duty. Brandon tries to move on with his civilian life with the support of his friends and family. But the Army orders him back to duty in Iraq, against his will. This movie will hit a bunch of people in the gut, because the Army has been extending enlistment periods of service members since the stop-loss statute was created. "Stop-Loss" is rated R and is playing at Regal Santiam 11.
