Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000) was one of the most celebrated African American painters and printmakers of the twentieth century. In 1969, he was commissioned to illustrate Aesop’s Fables; he had always been fascinated with these morality tales and was intrigued by the opportunity to cast animals and insects as the main characters. Organized by Director John Olbrantz, the exhibition will feature 23 drawings on loan from the Paul G. Allen Family Collection.
