Citizen’s petition fights downtown meters
A citizen’s group has organized to object to City plans that parking meters soon fill Salem’s downtown district. Shortly after declaring its purpose, the group found fifty downtown businesses who wanted to help it gather signatures.
The group needs 8,000 signatures from “registered Salem residents” by August 2, if it is to appear on the November ballot says organizer, and downtown business owner Carole Smith.
Smith’s says, “we have passed the review process for our petition language, now we are getting our signature sheets approved.”
The group hopes to begin collecting signatures on June 14.
